Department History

After the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department was established in 1996, it started training in 2000. The education language of the department is English. Students whose language level is not sufficient for education attend the preparatory program in the Department of Foreign Languages. The education period of our department is four years. Students are admitted to the department with a numerical score.

As it is known, we see that an important aspect of the information and technology race between countries throughout history is the development and use of superior materials. Therefore, we aimed to equip our students with the necessary knowledge and skills for the development of advanced technology materials. For this, we ensure the effective use of computers and advanced technology devices in the courses and laboratories given during the education period. In addition, we try to provide the necessary opportunities to raise individuals who are researchers in the courses they take, aim for lifelong learning, can prepare and manage projects, observe their environment and developments, and are prone to multidisciplinary and group work. Our aim in doing these is to make them not always buyers but to be high-qualified individuals who can interpret and use what they receive in a good way, and bring added value to themselves and the society they live in.

In the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering program, our students have the opportunity to take basic science and engineering science courses, engineering design and compulsory department courses, as well as elective courses in the fields of social, law, management, and finance, where they can direct themselves in line with their individual abilities, and the education is provided in English. It is possible for our academically successful students to benefit from the Minor Program, which allows specialization in other departments within our faculty, and the Double Major Program, which makes it possible to obtain a bachelor's degree in a second program.
